Mashing up classic and contemporary performances in a intimately vertical (and historic) theater beside Union Square, the ACT can be great!
The annual "A Christmas Carol" production is well-regarded and easy to remember (!), but the schedule of performances is diverse and high-quality.
The organization is non-profit organization and includes acting instruction for children and adults (notable MFA alums include Annette Bening and Denzel Washington), while the building - built after the 1906 earthquake and fire - shows a Neoclassical facade with a more Victorian aesthetic inside (and is on the National Registry of Historic Places).
Access via BART and Muni is nearby and validated parking is available at the corner of Mason and O'Farrell for $12.
