Combining massive millinery with nearly continuous music, song and dance - BBB jets the audience through time and space in blinks of an eye - spoofing everyone from Tiger Woods to Louis XIV, and reliably delivering a hilarious performance.
The crowd is largely visitors, but the show's over-the-top costumes and irreverence reflect legitimate and notable elements of San Francisco culture. It's not entirely a joke... or maybe it is? :)
Founded by Steve Silver in 1974, BBB started at Club Savoy Tivoli (up on Grant st) and has continued under his wife since his death in 1995 - and still sells out, regularly.
Owing to the liquor license, the show is 21 and up (except Sundays). Otherwise, Golden Boy Pizza is just across Columbus on Green St, not to mention the rest of North Beach nightlife :)
