In a 7 mile square - albeit one with some serious hills - SF transportation options abound. For many segments, walking is best and may even provide an adventure along the way! For lengthier journeys within the city, a patchwork of public transportation (Muni Metro/Buses + BART) augment taxis and good ol' driving... and/or bicycling (!) for those feeling the flow :)
And, of course, the iconic Cable Cars and F-Market Streetcars provide high-style mobility in a somewhat longer time frame.
To and from the surrounding suburbs, BART, Caltrain, AC Transit and SamTrans route terrestrial with the Blue and Gold Ferries providing water transport to Sausalito and Tiburon, and Golden Gate Transit provides both bus and ferry service.
SFO and Oakland Airport are the primary airports, both accessible by BART.
