Elevated and prominently visible, San Francisco's first university makes a clean break from the Western Addition.
Founded in 1855, the school is progressive politically (hosting AIDS Lifecycle kickoffs among many other things), private and Jesuit.
The Neoclassical St. Ignatius Church (on campus) is visible from many locations within the city.
Otherwise, Golden Gate Park is a short walk south with the Inner Richmond to the Northwest.
